Garrett Byrne has many years experience in environmental, planning, disciplinary and regulatory law. He has appeared in the Legal 500 for the last few years as a recommended junior in environmental law. He regularly advises on all aspects of environmental law, including waste management, waste packaging, transfrontier movement of waste, contaminated land, water pollution, water quality, sewers and drains, air pollution and IPC, environmental impact assessment, prosecutions, and health and safety. He advises and appears in court on behalf of industrial and commercial clients, as well as regulators. He is instructed by the Environment Agency and local authorities.
In addition to environmental work, Garrett undertakes all aspects of planning law, including appearing at inquiries on behalf of both promoters and authorities.
Garrett also practises in the area of disciplinary and regulatory law. He regularly appears before the police disciplinary tribunal and is instructed to advise on and present cases in disciplinary cases brought by the Metropolitan Police Service Anti-Corruption Command. He was legal assessor in the disciplinary proceedings arising out of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry. He also conducts disciplinary and advisory work in relation to other professional bodies, such as accountants and solicitors.
Garrett participates in the training of new members of the profession, being a Gray’s Inn Advocacy Trainer. He was a facilitator in the Bar Human Rights training programme in 2001/2002.
