Prof. Dr. Guido Carducci, Esq. is a leading expert in international art and cultural property, in particular in the area of restitution claims of stolen, looted, illegally exported art and cultural property.
In particular, Guido has served as Chief, International Standards Section, UNESCO (HQ Paris) and was responsible for i) international-standard setting with regard to 192 Member States in art and cultural property law; ii) the UNESCO Conventions (and soft-law instruments) on art and cultural property; iii) the UNESCO Return and Restitution Intergovernmental Committee. He's acted as Mediator between the UK and the Greek Governments concerning the restitution of the Parthenon Marbles in the British Museum; prepared the first draft and was responsible for the intergovernmental negotiation of the UNESCO Draft Declaration of Principles Relating to Cultural Objects Displaced in Connection with the Second World War; and published two books and forty articles, in particular, a monograph on international restitution claims of stolen or illegally exported cultural property and some fifteen articles on international art and cultural property law.
