In this area, specialist members of Chambers are experienced in cases relating to:

  • Contracts for the carriage of goods by sea (bulk and containerised) including bills of lading, sea waybills, voyage / time / consecutive voyage charterparties, COAs, time charter trips etc. Frequently, these relate to bulk oil and gas cargoes;
  • International contracts of sale of goods (particularly for the sale of bulk goods, including shipments of oil and gas and other commodities) on FOB / CIF / CFR terms), as well as banking and security transactions associated with such contracts (that is bankers’ documentary credits, on-demand guarantees and negotiable instruments);
  • Marine insurance contracts. This includes cargo, hull & machinery, energy, P & I, FDD and Charterers’ liability insurances and also reinsurances of marine risks;
  • Other energy related matters such as sale and purchase and other agreements relating to the exploitation of oil and gas reserves and agreements related to renewable energy;
  • Admiralty claims;
  • CMR claims.

Members of Chambers frequently undertake matters arising out of disputes in the above fields in the Commercial Court, the Circuit Commercial Court, the Admiralty Court and in arbitration proceedings (e.g. under LMAA, LCIA and ICC Rules).
