Employment Law Webinar Series

The nuts and bolts of Employment Law during COVID-19: a webinar series tackling employment law issues in the context of the pandemic

4-5 Gray’s Inn Square presents a series of webinars on Employment Law during COVID-19: tackling employment law issues in the context of the pandemic to trainees and junior lawyers. The webinars are designed for lawyers that are new to employment law and will provide a user-friendly overview of the main issues employment lawyers are facing throughout this unprecedented time.

Each 30-minute webinar will be divided in two parts: a comprehensive overview of the topic, and a Q&A session. Flyer invitation can be viewed here.

Webinar 1: 23 June 2020, 12:30pm

The nuts and bolts of Employment Law: Extension of Time Limits

The advent of COVID-19 brings with it many legal consequences, one of which will be the inability to lodge or respond to claims within the prescribed time limits. This webinar will discuss applications for extensions of time for bringing and responding to claims.

Slides available here.

Webinar 2: 26 June 2020, 12:30pm

The nuts and bolts of Employment Law: Alternative Dispute Resolution

On 19 March 2020 all in-person hearings to the 26th June 2020 were converted to case management hearings by electronic means. All matters will see a significant delay in coming to a final hearing. This webinar will discuss the techniques for effective negotiation, and the option of mediation, including cases’ suitability for judicial mediation, with a view to bringing matters to a close sooner.

Webinar 3: 30 June 2020, 12:30pm

The nuts and bolts of Employment Law: Interim Relief

The expected delays in bringing matters to a final hearing may see employees and their representatives applying for orders for interim relief to secure the continuation of the employment contract, especially as those are available in cases of whistleblowing unfair dismissal. This webinar will discuss the practicalities of such applications.

Slides available here.

Webinar 4: 3 July 2020, 12:30pm

The nuts and bolts of Employment Law: Whistleblowing claims

The government has issued ‘COVID-19 Secure’ guidance on working safely during the pandemic. This webinar will discuss the protection afforded to whistleblowers under employment law.

Webinar 5: 7 July 2020, 12:30pm

The nuts and bolts of Employment Law: Health and Safety Dismissals and detriments

Working at the time of the pandemic may see some employees taking action on health and safety grounds. This webinar will discuss if and when protection against detriment and dismissal will be afforded to employees in such circumstances.

Webinar 6: 10 July 2020, 12:30pm

The nuts and bolts of Employment Law: Redundancy during COVID-19
