New Housing Green Paper Announced
Robert Brown and Justin Bates, Barristers, Arden Chambers
The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has announced that the Government will be bringing forward a green paper on social housing.
The announcement was made in Sajid Javid MP’s speech to the National Housing Federation annual conference in Birmingham. The green paper is promised to be a “wide-ranging, top-to-bottom review of the issues facing the [social housing] sector”. No date was given for when the green paper will be published (the green paper on funding supported housing, which was said in this year’s White Paper to be due in the Spring, has not yet been published).
In his speech, the Secretary of State also promised that an announcement would be made regarding the future formula for social housing rents “very, very soon” and that, so far as the voluntary Right to Buy is concerned, the Government will “be making a decision on the way forward just as soon as we possibly can.”
The text of the speech is available here.
