Research Fellow – EU Rights and Brexit Hub, York Law School (July 2020- July 2023)

A major ESRC Governance after Brexit funded project. Legal action research clinic providing second-tier advice and researching EEA+ nationals access to welfare and public services.

UK national expert – MoveS Network, EU Commission (July 2021 – present)

Contributing to monthly flash reports on free movement and social security coordination.

Research Fellow – EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), Public Law Project (July 2019 – June 2020)

Researching the administrative justice implications of the EUSS. Submitting FOIA requests, survey design and writing up findings in articles, reports and blogs.

ESRC Overseas Institutional Visit – Glendon College, York University, Toronto (September to December 2018)

An ESRC funded placement to research further the dynamics of multi-level citizenship.

Legal Caseworker - The AIRE Centre (Sept 2017 – December 2017) (voluntary)

Preparing pro bono written legal advice, cases for tribunal. Writing case and information notes for AIRE Centre publications. Training QMU students for their EU law clinic service.

Education and qualifications:

2016 – 2020: University of York - PhD in Law

Vanishing safety nets, the citizenship illusion, and the worker that isn’t: a case study of EU migrant atypical workers’ rights in the UK.

This PhD used a mixed methods approach, utilising doctrinal legal and theoretical analysis alongside empirical case study methodologies to analyse the application of the minimum earnings threshold in welfare benefit and permanent residence card applications to determine if an EU national fits the definition of a worker.
