Practice Summary

Andrew’s practice encompasses the range of chambers’ specialisms including Housing, Property and Public Law, as well as Inquests and Inquiries. He appears for both individuals – including private landlords – and public authorities as junior and sole counsel in various courts and tribunals.

Andrew joined chambers in 2024 having previously practised at another leading London set. He is an experienced advocate, well regarded for his assured yet approachable manner with clients.

Andrew has been commended by instructing solicitors as someone who works “diligently and tirelessly…to provide excellent results” with a “very impressive retention and appreciation of information.”

Outside of the Bar, Andrew has a keen interest in current affairs, politics and sport. This includes resistance training, boxing and hiking in his spare time. He is also a football and cricket fan, especially watching Middlesex and England at Lords, as well as the ever-changing fortunes of Newcastle United.

Andrew regularly appears in the County Court with a particular focus on the core areas of possession (including forfeiture), succession, disrepair and injunctions (including anti-social behaviour and access injunctions).

Recent work in the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) involved leasehold matters and service charge disputes, as well as landlord banning orders.

Andrew also specialises in quasi-criminal cases in the Crown and Magistrates’ Courts. Key cases include acting as junior counsel in prosecuting the breach of multiple emergency prohibition orders by a landlord with an extensive portfolio of over 350 properties. Other recent instructions concerned closure orders, statutory nuisance and unlawful eviction.

Andrew has extensive experience in High Court appeals by way of case stated from both the Crown and Magistrates’ Courts. In McNutt v Transport for London [2019] EWHC 365 (Admin), Andrew acted for the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association and the High Court considered the correct construction of section 165, Equality Act 2010.

Andrew has been instructed in various public law matters. Recent High Court work has included successfully resisting an application for judicial review which was subsequently determined to be totally without merit.

Andrew has a burgeoning practice in Inquests and Inquiries. He has acted in various high-profile matters and, most notably, was instructed for a number of years by a Band 1 ranked London firm acting for a core participant in the Grenfell Inquiry.
