Practice Summary
Since commencing her second six, Jess has developed a busy court-based practice alongside her drafting and advisory work.
Jess regularly appears on behalf of the police in a range of civil applications as part of chambers’ MET Panel. She has succeeded in obtaining both interim and final Closure Orders, Sexual Risk Orders, Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and Stalking Protection Orders.
Jess also appears regularly in the County Court in housing matters, including possession hearings at which she has successfully represented both landlords and tenants.
She also acts for various local authorities in a wide range of civil matters, obtaining injunctions at contested hearings and providing “first rate” written advice on the civil enforcement powers available to local authorities.
Prior to starting pupillage, Jess worked as a Legal Assistant to Mark Symes at Garden Court Chambers, where she regularly drafted grounds for judicial review claims in the High Court, Administrative Court and Upper Tribunal. She continued to pursue an interest in public and human rights law through fellowships at the AIRE Centre and the European Court of Human Rights, where she primarily worked on the Grand Chamber case of Ukraine and the Netherlands v Russia.
Jess seeks to develop a broad practice in public law, and is particularly well-placed to assist on judicial review claims and disputes involving aspects of immigration or human rights law.
She also seeks to maintain her interest in international human rights law, and is open to pro bono work having volunteered on pro bono cases with the public law team at Advocate.
Outside of work, Jess regularly performs with Putney Theatre Company.
