Ryan specialises in property, housing and commercial law, as well as general civil litigation.
Ryan joins 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square from a common law chambers. Prior to this, he enjoyed a busy practice as an advocate, appearing in over 2,500 hearings in the County Court and High Court. Ryan has considerable drafting experience, and he turns around paperwork at short notice.
Before coming to the Bar, Ryan read Classics at University College London.
Ryan has extensive experience in both property and housing law. He is regularly instructed:
- By lenders and creditors, particularly in claims for possession and orders for sale.
- In landlord and tenant matters, both residential and commercial, from routine possession claims through to service charge disputes and (relief from) forfeiture applications.
- In housing disrepair for both landlords and tenants, providing advice on merits and representation in Part 8 claims and fast-track trials.
Ryan complements this work with a rewarding practice in social housing law. He has previously enjoyed a long-standing instruction from the duty solicitor in Bromley under the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Scheme (HLPAS) to provide advice and representation to individuals at risk of homelessness.
Ryan has a strong practice in commercial law, with a particular focus on contract and insolvency.
Ryan has significant experience acting for petitioning creditors and debtors, as well as trustees in bankruptcy. He has acted in complex disputes in respect of validation orders and applications to set aside statutory demands.
He accepts instructions for both court and advisory work, recently providing comprehensive advice on the law of bailment and liens on the death of a bailor. He has recently appeared in the High Court to successfully oppose as totally without merit an application to set aside a substantial interim third-party debt order secured against a charity.
