Public Inquiries - A Guide to Evidence & Procedure
In this webinar recording presented by Vida Simpeh in conjunction with MBL explores evidence and procedure within public inquiries, mainly looking at the issues and factors which legal representitives of those called on to give evidence/produce documents should consider.
Public Inquiries are held to investigate events of public concern.
The Purpose of an Inquiry is to find out what happened, why is happened, who is accountable, and to learn lessons from those events in order to prevent future occurences. A key aspect of publis inquiries is the gathering of evidence. As inquiry can make a request for evidence under Rule 9 of the Inquiry Rules 2006 and in default of provision of such evidence, the Chair of the inquiry may require the production of evidence.
This webinar discusses powers of the inquiry to obtain relevent evidence in answering its terms of reference under the relevant legislation.
