Equality Act 2010 and landlords refusing to accept benefit claimants as tenants

The BBC radio programme ‘You and Yours’ has run a feature on the practice of some landlords and agents of refusing to let properties to prospective tenants who are in receipt of benefits. The programme discusses a case in which Robert Brown, with the Bar Pro Bono Unit, represented a claimant who had been prevented from taking a tenancy of a property and who eventually received a compensation payment when the case was settled by consent.

The episode of ‘You and Yours’ can be accessed here and the feature starts at 33:27.
