Iulia Saran represents Doctor in fitness to practise proceedings
The GMC instigated fitness to practise proceedings against Dr D for dishonestly attending work when she should have been self-isolating due to displaying COVID-19 symptoms, and for attempting to conceal this fact. Dr D denied these allegations, but made extensive admissions in relation to the other charges. She maintained that she had made an error of judgment which had been compounded, in a state of anxiety, by a series of bad decisions she had made over a period of two days.
Following a 7-day hearing, the Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal found that her conduct had been dishonest, and that she had attempted to conceal it. The Tribunal accepted the submissions made on behalf of Dr D that the dishonesty found proved should be considered as one isolated instance of dishonest conduct spanning over two days. It also determined that the doctor’s fitness to practise was not impaired, and that a warning was an appropriate sanction in this case.
