New statutory guidance on the provision of accommodation for 16 and 17 year old young people who may be homeless and/or require accommodation

Following the coming into force of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and the new Homelessness Code of Guidance for Local Authorities, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government (under s.182 Housing Act 1996) and the Secretary of State for Education (under s.7 Local Authority Social Services Act 1970) have jointly issued guidance to local housing authorities and children’s services authorities about their duties under Part 7 Housing Act 1996 and Part 3 Children Act 1989 to secure and/or provide accommodation for 16-17 year olds who are homeless and/or in need of accommodation. This guidance revises the previous version, issued in April 2010, and has been updated to reflect changes in homelessness legislation and children’s legislation.
