Overview of the Proposed 2026 DIFC Arbitration and Mediation Law

Boris Lazic and Arran Dowling-Hussey, Co-Heads of 4–5 Gray’s Inn Square’s International Group, look at the proposed reforms to arbitration in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

The proposed amendments include:

• Shorter timeframes within which to challenge an arbitration.

• Arbitrators may summarily dismiss groundless claims, defences, or counterclaims that lack genuine legal or factual merit, saving significant time and administrative cost
