We are a little late with our October newsletter as lots has been going on! Even though the days are shorter, Chambers continues to be busy as ever, with lots of coverage and articles published this month – a selection includes:
Josep Galvez, FCIArb has published an article exposing the rising prominence of the English courts as the go-to venue for enforcing arbitration awards, especially against our often recalcitrant EU neighbours. In this article, Josep reflects on how English jurisdiction, like the rolling hills of our timeless countryside, stands firm and unshaken in the face of Europe’s increasingly convoluted legal quagmire. While our continental counterparts, driven by the CJEU’s decisions in cases such as Achmea and Komstroy, twist and turn to uphold bureaucratic diktats, our courts remain immovable—much like the ancient oaks guarding our green and pleasant land. Arun Kasi and Amrit Dhanoa published the eighth edition of our Shipping law Newsletter; AK on Shipping. This issue reviews This month's issue reviews the summaries of two cases decided in May 2024:

Earlier this month, Chambers was delighted to host the launch party for our cross-jurisdiction alliance with Mumbai based law firm VALS LEGAL. This alliance aims to focus on cross-border commercial litigation and international arbitration. The evening was a great opportunity for members of both 4-5 Gray’s Inn square and VALS legal alike to commemorate the launch of this new alliance going forward. 4-5 Grays Inn Square were delighted to be invited to the North West Legal Consortium annual training day in Warrington on the 1st of October 2024. Barristers Johnathan Manning, Christopher Larkin, Annabel Nuttall Heath and Annabel Steele attended the training session, alongside clerks Stephen Somerville and William Mourino.
New joiners:
This month we welcomed Stephanie Roles to the Practice Management team. Stephanie joins us a Practice Manager, working closely alongside Senior Practice Manager, Chris Feathers in developing areas such as Financial Regulatory Law and Professional Discipline, Inquests and Inquiries, Investigations and, Business Crime. Prior to joining Chambers, Stephanie clerked at a Stephanie clerked at a leading multi-disciplined set with a national and international reputation in criminal and quasi criminal law. We are delighted to welcome Amit Jamsandekar to Chambers. In a career spanning 26 years, Amrit is a leading commercial litigation Counsel and an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) specialist. As a leading IPR practitioner in India, he has litigated cases covering trademarks, patents, copyright, confidential information, geographical indications, arbitration and other commercial laws. Amrit has served as counsel in both domestic and international arbitrations, and regularly provides written opinions on cross-border litigation strategies.
We are also pleased to welcome a new pupil, Boris Lazic, to Chambers. Boris was called to the bar in March 2024. Boris has been a practicing lawyer in Cyprus for the past 12 years specialising in both contentious and non-contentious commercial matters. Given Boris’s multilingualism, his practice involved clients and cases deriving from all hemispheres. Boris is currently undertaking the non - practicing part of his reduced pupillage and looks forward to receiving instructions from 1 January 2025, in matters encompassing most areas of civil law, commercial law, public law and financial crime.
Last but by no means least, Chambers was delighted to welcome Professor Cam Wareham. Cam is a specialist Arbitrator and Mediator in the field of life sciences, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, with over 20 years of experience specialising in the resolution of disputes within these sectors.
